“Sustenance”
The 4th Conference of AAAPS
University of Wollongong            April 12-14, 2012

What does the Pacific draw sustenance from:

• economically
• physically
• socially
• culturally
• historically
• politically
• spiritually
• intellectually  ?
   

What is sustainable in each of these:

• in the Pacific Islands
• in Pacific communities in Australia
• in Pacific Studies  ?
   

The organisers invite proposals for papers addressing these questions. Abstracts of up to 250 words to Frances Steel fsteel@uow.edu.au by 31 January please.

Papers should be 20-minute presentations. Poster proposals may be considered.

Panels are already in preparation on the following topics:

• Maori in Australia (Mark Hilder: mwh963@uow.edu.au)
• Climate change: especially re Kiribati/Banaba           (Katerina Teaiwa: katerina.teaiwa@anu.edu.au)
• Dance (Katerina Teaiwa: katerina.teaiwa@anu.edu.au)
• Tourism (John Taylor: John.Taylor@latrobe.edu.au)

Anyone with suitable abstracts please copy to the panel coordinators.

AAAPS works to promote the scholarly study of the Pacific across all disciplines.
Papers might come from or engage with any or more of the following:

Pacific histories, Tourism studies, Health research, Pacific epistemologies,
Diasporic communities, Urban design, Anthropology, Cultural studies,
Art, Photography and Film, Geography, Archaeology, Literature,
Environmental science, Government, Media studies, Crime prevention,
Law of the sea, Museum studies, Teaching and learning, Intellectual property,
Heritage studies, Language policy, Music studies, Theology, Globalisation studies.
